The best selfie drones provide excellent photos from a short distance. We round-up some of these selfie drones that are on the market, revealing the four top options in our reviews.

Drones have lots of uses and are helpful in many scenarios. Some of you may use them for landscape photography, while others want something to take great videos. Amongst the many uses for drones, one stands out as somewhat unique.

That’s right, you can use drones to take selfies! Imagine that: you no longer need to hold your phone or use a selfie stick – it’s all taken care of by your drone!

Naturally, this means you’re looking for a drone with some specific qualities. Realistically, all drones of a certain standard will provide great selfies. However, a true selfie drone needs to be portable, a realistically affordable price, and come with some extra features to make your photos stand out.

Here are The Best Selfie Drones

DJI Mini 2
Zerotech Dobby

Best Selfie Drone #1 DJI Mavic Mini

The Mavic Mini took over from the highly popular DJI Spark as a portable beast with loads of great features. It features the classic Mavic foldable design, which is seen in some of the larger models. The main difference is that the Mini really is mini – it fits in the palm of your hand and weighs less than 250 grams.

It’s highly capable of producing excellent shots, with a 2.7k 30fps camera with 12MP. The Mini is capable of firing lots of shots in quick succession, ensuring you get the perfect selfie…eventually!

It has a 4km range, so you can zoom up high to get some long-range selfie drone shots if you want. The drone also features all the impressive stability you’d expect from a DJI Mavic drone, so the images are crystal clear and don’t blur. The controls are fairly easy to use, and you can see everything from the drone’s point of view via the controller.

All of this comes in a package that starts at around $360 right now. So, at under $400, this represents a fantastic mid-range option for any selfie-lovers out there.

#2 DJI Mini 2

DJI Mini 2 Fly More Combo – Ultralight Foldable Drone, 3-Axis Gimbal with 4K Camera, 12MP Photos, 31 Mins Flight Time, OcuSync 2.0 10km HD Video Transmission, QuickShots, Gray

Funnily enough, DJI recently released a new Mini 2 in 2020! This came just a year after the original Mini, providing a few upgrades. Here, you get the same capabilities of the Mini, but with some seriously enhanced specs. We’ll start with the drone’s stability – while both use the 3-axis stabilization design, the Mini 2 has a wind resistance level of 5, compared to 4 for the Mini. As such, it offers a little bit of extra stability, ensuring the drone doesn’t wobble when taking selfies.

True to its name, the Mini 2 is similarly sized to its predecessor but weighs in at 242 grams this time. The biggest difference is in the camera quality and functionality. For starters, the Mini 2 now shoots in 4K, 30 frames per second. While they both boast the same 12MP camera, the Mini 2 now has a zoom function.

You can zoom up to four times with no quality drops, and this also opens the door for some additional photo features. For instance, it’s capable of providing panoramic shots, letting you get the whole background while taking selfies.

All in all, it’s an upgrade on the Mini, which means it comes with a price bump as well. The Mini 2 will set you back $449, which is nearly $100 more than the original Mini. We included both options so you can pick whichever one fits your selfie drone budget!

#3 Zerotech Dobby

It shares a name with a house-elf from Harry Potter, and Dobby is a self-confessed ‘legend of the drone industry.’ Most drone enthusiasts have heard of this device, largely because it caters to a specific market.

Dobby is small enough to fit in your pocket and weighs a mere 199g. It’s controllable via the Dobby app, so you can use your smartphone to fly it around. You only have to press one button to make the drone take off and land, so it’s incredibly user-friendly.

All images are presented on your phone screen, giving you a first-person view of what the drone sees. This also helps you take great selfies drone shots as you already see what the image looks like on your phone! As far as the camera is concerned, you’ll be amazed to hear it provides 4K and 1080P video, as well as 1300P images.

There’s a PANO mode and many other photo features as well. It’s currently available for around $300, making it an excellent price for people that want to upgrade their selfies.

#4 Hover Passport

We aren’t giving out awards for unique designs, but if we were, the Hover Passport would surely win. It’s such a strange drone to look at, largely because it’s completely flat when you use it. As you unfold this device, you have a flat rectangle with a bump on the top where the power button is.

Power it on while holding this bump, then let go of the drone. The fans kick in to keep it upright, and it stays in place! It’s a very unique design as most drones have to take off from the ground.

The Hover Passport uses an app on your phone to control it, but it has a very short range of up to 65 feet. You connect the device to your phone via WiFi, which is why it doesn’t work that well when you’re far apart. Still, this makes it an excellent selfie drone as you don’t need to be too far away from it! Speaking of which, it has a 4K 30fps video camera that locks onto your face when in-flight.

This is perfect if you want to film selfie videos, but it also means your face is in-focus during any photos. The original Hover Passport can be found on some sites for as little as $200, making it an absolute bargain.

Best Selfie Drone Conclusion

Selfie drones don’t need to be overly complex or come equipped with massive ranges or battery life. Ideally, you want a reasonably affordable drone that produces excellent pictures and videos. These four options are surely the best selfie drones you can buy right now.
